Measure Your Website Performance
May 10, 2011
We recently ran a survey to find out whether website owners were ensuring their website investment was working for them. What do we mean by "working"? While having a website design which knocks off the socks off of grandma is great, and having your developer show you application performance reports is re-assuring - how do you know your website is generating a Return On Investment?
Without checking your website analytics you are in the dark about how many users get to your website. How they get there? What they do once they are there? Statistics are the reality of your investment, good numbers will validate your product or service, bad numbers will alert you to something which isn't working. Don't stick your head in the sand! Whether good or bad, these numbers need to be monitored and responded to quickly to ensure growth.
How the survey numbers break down:
How often do you check your website statistics?

An astounding 14% do not check their website statistics at all!
Without becoming obsessive, our recommendation is to check your statistics on a minimum weekly basis - that gives you plenty of traffic to analyze and make an educated guess whether your campaign has worked or needs adjustment.

The only thing worse than not having a website, is having a poorly designed website which drives customers away.
